125 Years of Music and Culture: Year 10 Sociology's V&A East Visit

15th Jun 2026

A note from Ms Hardaker......

Year 10 Sociology students travelled to the new V&A East Museum to visit their landmark exhibition; The Music is Black: A British Story. This exhibition spans over 125 years of Black music-making in Britain, exploring the power and impact of Black artistry on British music, culture and beyond. Before entering the exhibition, the students were each given a headset which enabled them to listen to over 120 tracks as they made their way through the exhibition, making it a really engaging immersive sound experience. Students loved being able to hear how music has changed over time while learning about the historical and social influences that caused many of these changes. Students also drew their own personal links to the music, with many songs reminding them of their childhood and culture.
