Progression
All Sixth Form students have one-to-one interviews to support them with their destinations. In June of Year 12, workshops on university and apprenticeships begin and continue into September. We adopt a personalised approach with individuals/targeted groups. During this time, all year 12 students attend a UCAS Discovery exhibition at a campus university and an open day at a Russell Group university. Students are encouraged to attend a summer school and a range of open days, with financial support provided for train fares. Students work with a number of organisations such as Into University, the Sutton Trust, the Social Mobility Foundation and Unifrog to support them with their University applications.
We also prepare students for the world of work by offering sessions with organisations such as the Youth Leadership Programme (Berkeley Project). The aim of the Youth Leadership Programme is to develop students' leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility. The programme ran from November to June and began with a series of planning and skills-building sessions. In February, students took part in a four-day residential trip, where they engaged in activities such as high ropes, caving, and team challenges, alongside public speaking workshops to build confidence and communication skills. In March, students pitched their ideas in a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style event, outlining their plans for social action projects focused on sustainable change and a greener future. These projects were delivered in June, and included initiatives such as litter clean-up campaigns, reducing food waste, and gardening to promote healthier eating in the community. It was a hugely valuable experience, giving students the chance to build practical skills while making a meaningful impact.
Students in Years 12 and 13 receive Independent Careers Information, Advice and Guidance. All students use Unifrog for impartial advice and guidance on CVs, job, apprenticeship and university applications.
The vast majority of our students apply to university through UCAS and they are successful in securing places on their preferred courses. In addition, a small number of students opt to follow Art Foundation courses prior to a degree. Our students progress onto a range of courses at many institutions across the country. For example:
Oxford and Cambridge most recently to study English and Computer Science.
Russell Group universities including Birmingham, Leeds, Southampton, Nottingham to study a wide range of subjects such as Biochemistry, Law, History, Psychology and many more.
