Extra-curricular and enrichment
We believe in offering a wide-range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities in order to broaden students’ skills and horizons.
All Year 12 students undertake a sports related enrichment during Wednesday afternoons, ranging from football, ice skating to sailing.
Our thriving football team trains twice a week with a professional coach and is entered into the AOC league, Middlesex Cups and competes in one international tournament each season.
Every Wednesday, Sixth Form games includes options of Ice Skating, Basketball, Football, Gym and Rock Climbing.
Departments also offer enriching activities each year:
We offer an exciting annual trip to CERN for our Sixth Form students, providing a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge science. In 2024, we have taken organised two trips to CERN, in April 2024 and in November 2024 . During the visit, students take part in interactive workshops, enjoy a guided tour of CERN, and explore a nearby French city to broaden their cultural experience. Our next CERN trip is planned for September 2025 and promises to be another inspiring and educational experience.
We are proud to support STEM learning through our VEX V5 Robotics programme at GCA, designed specifically for our Sixth Form students. In February 2025, we hosted a successful V5 event, and we plan to run two more competitions during the 2025–2026 academic year. These events provide valuable hands-on experience in engineering, coding, and teamwork. Our robotics teams have not only competed at the UK Nationals but have also qualified for the prestigious VEX World Championships, showcasing their talent on an international stage.
For students studying A-Level History or Politics, we have the fantastic opportunity to visit the centre of power in the UK, the Houses of Parliament. Our students get the opportunity to receive a guided tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords, including the chance to sit in on Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords debating laws. Students also have the opportunity to visit the Supreme Court and Westminster Abbey. We also have a range of other opportunities – A-Level Politics students can apply for our local MP, Catherine West’s summer school which gives further insights into the inner workings of politics and History students can apply for a War Studies taster day at King’s College, London.
Students in the Sixth Form are encouraged to adopt leadership roles within the school primarily through the various societies that students can join. In Year 12, students are encouraged to assist with lower school students with literacy and numeracy programmes and support the work of specific departments. Sixth Form students are often invited to support sporting events and help with curriculum trips for younger students.
