Growing, Glowing & Going Green at GCA!

1st Oct 2026

Last week, pupils from our Reptile Club, Fishkeeping Club and Botanicals Club headed to Crews Hill to stock up on new plants and fish for our school.

For many of our new Year 7 students, it was their first trip and they couldn’t believe their eyes! From exploring the huge variety of plants at the garden centre to discovering all the different species of fish at Maidenhead Aquatics, there was plenty to see, learn about and enjoy. One student even had the important job of personally delivering Mr Sutton’s new golden minnows!

Bringing nature into our school environment is about much more than making our spaces look good. Plants, aquariums and opportunities to care for living things can encourage curiosity, responsibility and an appreciation of the natural world, while helping to create welcoming spaces in which to learn.

And our green ambitions don’t stop there! This year we have also launched our new GCA Eco Warriors, a student team that will help drive our sustainability agenda forward and make practical, lasting improvements across the school.

From plants and fish to sustainability and student action, we’re looking forward to seeing our students help make GCA an even greener place to learn and grow.
