21st Jun 2026It was a fantastic weekend for Greig City Academy sailing, with all seven of our sailors successfully completing the prestigious Thames Tideway Dinghy Derby on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
The biggest celebration was reserved for Corneille, who delivered an outstanding performance to win the Laser Class and claim the title of 1st Youth Overall, taking home the coveted Youth Trophy. An incredible achievement in a highly competitive fleet and a proud moment for the whole school.
The Thames Tideway Dinghy Derby was held to celebrate the opening of the Thames Tideway Tunnel and a cleaner River Thames. Organised by Ranelagh Sailing Club, the event saw up to 80 dinghies race from Putney Embankment to a buoy near the Houses of Parliament and back, - the first mass-Thames dinghy race in nearly 50 years.
The event also supported our very own Scaramouche Sailing Trust, the charity founded through Greig City Academy that promotes sailing and helps young people develop confidence, resilience and life skills through the sport.
Adding to an already memorable day, Riot also claimed victory in the ISC Inshore Race, making it a double success for our sailors.
To have all seven sailors finish such a challenging event, alongside two major victories, is simply remarkable. These achievements highlight the talent, determination and teamwork of our young sailors and demonstrate the incredible opportunities that sailing provides.
Congratulations to Corneille, Riot and all seven of our sailors on an unforgettable day on the Thames, a brilliant celebration of sailing and a huge achievement for Greig City Academy.
