Year 12 Sailors Earn Special Awards and Praise from Former Olympic Skipper

Earlier this week, twelve of our Year 12 students successfully completed a Start Yachting Course off the South Coast of England, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout an unforgettable sailing experience.

The girls' team, Mesgana, Nowella, Chenicesha, Akeila and Dahlia sailed into Portsmouth before returning to London and impressed everyone with their positive attitude and commitment. In recognition of their efforts, they were awarded the Enthusiasm Prize.

The boys' team, Max, Bles, Thomas, Ezekial, Eren and Gideon then took over for a three-day expedition of their own. They showed tremendous determination in difficult conditions and were deserved winners of the Survival in Rough Conditions Prize.

One of the highlights of the week can be seen in the final photograph, where Thomas, who only joined Greig City Academy this year, can be seen at the top of Scaramouche's mast, an incredibly high climb that perfectly illustrates the confidence and courage our students displayed throughout the course.

The students were led by skipper Martin, a former member of the Great Britain Olympic Squad, who was full of praise for every participant. He commended their attitude, willingness to learn and the way they supported one another throughout the expedition.

A massive well done to all twelve students for embracing this challenge and representing Greig City Academy so brilliantly. They acquitted themselves exceptionally well and were outstanding ambassadors for the school.
