Since October, our KS4 Drama students embarked on an exciting journey as part of the Take the Lead programme with the prestigious Old Vic theatre, an amazing opportunity to develop both creative and professional skills. The experience began at the Old Vic auditorium, where students joined over 200 young people from across London. From the outset, they showed exceptional focus and enthusiasm, engaging with inspiring industry speakers and gaining valuable insights into self-marketing and the wide range of careers within the creative sector. Their confidence shone through during discussions, helping to set an energised and ambitious tone for the programme.

As the programme progressed, students took part in a series of dynamic workshops designed to build the five core employability skills: teamwork, communication, self-belief, self-management and problem-solving. In Learn Your Part, they explored performance-based activities and developed their own elevator pitches, while Build Your Company saw them take on industry roles and collaborate to pitch an original theatre production. These experiences provided a rich and engaging insight into both the creative and business sides of theatre.

The programme reached an exciting finale at a corporate headquarters, where students participated in a carousel of realistic recruitment activities, including interviews, networking and pitching to a professional panel. All students rose to the challenge with impressive confidence and professionalism, receiving outstanding praise from both corporate and creative industry professionals, and even being encouraged to pursue further opportunities such as work experience.

In February, the students also enjoyed a theatre visit to see Lost Atoms, where they had the unique opportunity to meet professional actors and make meaningful connections to their current studies further enriching an already inspiring experience.

This has been a truly transformative and highly successful programme, empowering our KS4 Drama students with invaluable skills, real-world experience and the confidence to take their next steps towards future ambitions.
