Back to newsYear 9 Mandarin Set: A Cultural Adventure in Xi’an, China
18th Jul 2025After a long journey involving planes, trains, and buses, our Year 9 Mandarin students arrived at Xi’an International Studies University, ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. From exploring ancient relics and climbing historic city walls to performing traditional kung fu and trying their hand at Chinese knot weaving, every day was packed with discovery and excitement.
The students attended daily Mandarin lessons, shared cultural exchanges with local schoolchildren, and even performed at the programme’s opening and closing ceremonies.
Highlights included a visit to the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors, delicious dumpling banquets, wearing traditional hanfu, and braving 40°C heat during a joyful sports day.
Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and resilience shone throughout—especially when arm wrestling and watermelon were involved!
Well done to all our students for representing GCA with such pride and spirit!
