A note from Ms Bullock:

I took our Urban Debate Cup winning Y10 girls team to the Urban Debate Cup National Grand Final on the 36^th Floor of the Salesforce Tower in the city to join 7 other teams from across the country to compete for the ultimate Debate Cup crown.

Motions for the first two heats were:

1. This House believes that AI and automation will increase opportunities for innovation and creativity

2. This House would ban children under 16 from becoming influencers on social media

The girls brought their A-game, battling hard against some tough opponents (including the Welsh champions!) and debating with breath-taking force and passion, winning their first two debates, knocking out 6 of the teams to gain themselves a place in the last two teams going head to head for the GRAND FINAL in front of a host of invited guests and all the other teams!

Unseen Grand Final motion: This House believes that Gen Z are more socially and politically aware than previous generations (we were put in opposition...).

After a pretty spicy, nail-biting debate, it was an impressive team from Sydenham School who went home with the crown.
