Thank you Yilda, Priya and Leann for raising money for Cardiomyopathy UK

1st Feb 2019

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle.

At least one person in 500 of the UK population has a type of cardiomyopathy and it affects people of all ages. The condition often runs in families and several people in Yilda's family are affected. Yilda’s uncle died of the disease in 2018. His birthday would have been January 1st 2019 and Yilda wanted to give him a birthday present by raising money for Cardiomyopathy UK, a charity which supports people with the disease.

With Priya and Leann, she decided to organise a cake sale in school. She made a marble cake herself and with Ms Brown’s help managed to get people to donate more. The girls raised £115 for the charity and were both surprised and pleased to find that some people donated money even when they didn’t take a cake.

The three girls have also been coordinating Year 9's donations to the food bank supported by the school and they have plans to support a number of other charities this year. We'll bring you news of their efforts later in the term.

Well done, Yilda, Priya and Leann.
