Options Programme – moving from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4

In Year 9 students have an intense Options Programme during which they are encouraged to evaluate their learning throughout Key Stage 3 with a view to making effective choices for Key Stage 4.

Our curriculum offers students a completely free choice at GCSE in terms of options.  All students follow a core requirement of English Language, English Literature, mathematics, combined science, religious education and non-examination PE.  All students are then offered a further four choices.  These include the option of taking all sciences separately.  Students may mix and match subjects freely.

Once initial choices have been made every student is interviewed by a member of the senior staff.  This interview is mindful of the potentially conflicting requirements of Attainment 8, the English Baccalaureate, the examination profile of the school and the genuine needs and strengths of the pupil.  Ultimately the needs of the child will take precedence.

"The school provides very clear and effective guidance about careers and future destinations. This enables pupils to make informed and intelligent decisions about their future. Students receive appropriate advice about university applications and the world of work." Ofsted 2019
