Sailing - this weekend is the big one.

6th Jul 2020

Skippered by Jaydon (Yr.10), crewed by Tyler and helmed by Kai  (bothY9), the GCA 22ft racing yacht will set off on a 40 mile JOG (Junior Offshore Group) race from Southampton, past the Isle of Wight, out into the English Channel, around the Nab Tower Buoy and back to Cowes (Isle of Wight).

They will have no teacher on board and will be starting, sailing, navigating, judging tides, changing wind patterns and then tactically dealing with other boats all by themselves.

They have spent 6 months restoring this boat themselves in the freezing cold in December, then doing the talks to raise the money for the new sails etc. Sadly, because of Coronavirus they have to sail 'short handed' ie with only 3 of them, so Jessye, Christopher-Joel and Kacey who did a lot of work cannot race with them, but they will have other opportunities when the restrictions lift.

Their average age is 14.4  The closest other boat will have an average age of 27........

'Game on...' says Mr Holt
