Faith in Focus Season – Hope and Harmony

10th May 2022

It is Faith in Focus season and  KS3 students  have been exploring Hope through Greek mythology, scripture, stories, drumming and dance.

Year 7s explored the African concept of Ubuntu, which Desmond Tutu called ‘God’s dream‘.  Ubuntu teaches that it is through community and relationship that we find the Hope to thrive and the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties. We are all connected and develop a mutual respect for our fellow human beings once we accept that we cannot be truly human alone.

The RE department were delighted to welcome Alfons and Martin Hanson back to GCA, with their vibrant bespoke workshop called  ‘Ubuntu, Hope and Harmony’  delivered through drumming, storytelling and dance.

The Hope Challenge

Year 7s are now wearing their ‘Change is Gonna come’ badges.  This highlights the challenge they were set; to spread hope by being the change they want to see in the world.  They are already earning lots of Ubuntu credits for their resulting kind words and actions which bring Hope and Harmony to our world.   Well done to Year 7 for engaging so wholeheartedly in the event and taking up the challenge to bring hope through change.  Ubuntu!

Here are some of the changes members of 7ET are making:

  1. I have made a  change by helping with the dishes, cleaning rooms and being more nice and caring for people.  I have a good faith and belief in God and believe we should all do small things to make a big difference. Rosa Parks , ML king and Harriet Tubmann inspire me.  I am preparing for other leadership roles and parts I can be involved in.
  1. I want to make a difference in the world by following in Jesus's footsteps and leading in power like Him. In Jesus name , Amen I  am bringing change by helping my form class with their work in Science.
  1. I want to  make a change because I'm inspired by M. L. King to be a better  person.  I want to be successful, to follow god's footsteps and be the best in life.  I helped my family. I also give my  food to my friend every week and I helped Mr Chorley by collecting in the sketch books.
  2. I brought a change by recycling and helping others in the class. doing good things makes me feel good.
  3. I'm making a change by helping my sister at home.
  4. I've seen how Rosa Parks and MLK did the march.  Harriet Tubman also inspires me because she led slaves out of slavery.
