Michal has reached the summit of Mount Everest!

9th May 2024

Everyone at GCA would like to wish the best of luck to GCA alumnus Michal Wensierski. Michal is currently at Everest Base Camp, about to embark on his biggest challenge so far, climbing Mount Everest!

Last year Michal trekked to Everest Base Camp ‘where I reignited my childhood dream (Poland village days) to climb Everest’. His determination has meant that just over a year later he has worked hard to raise the funds and fulfil that boyhood ambition of attempting to climb to the top of the highest mountain in the world.

During his time at GCA Michal displayed an unwavering determination to seize every opportunity that came his way. He completed both his bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards as well as taking part in many outdoor education trips from bike riding around the island of Jersey and canoeing the length of Lake Windermere to climbing Scafell Pike. In 2016 Michal fundraised over £3,000 along with other GCA students and staff to take on a World Challenge Expedition to Nicaragua during their summer holidays. Here the main task was to build two roads that would enable children to get to school in heavy rainfall.

Michal also won many awards in his time at GCA including two Jack Petchey Awards as well as the Arkwright Scholarship for future leaders in Engineering. He was also granted the Tallow Chandlers Bursary to study Engineering at Loughborough University where he studied Product Design Engineering.

His work ethic and determination were not only recognised in school but also outside of school. Michal was British Schools Judo Champion in 2014 as well as being selected for GBR JUDO Squad in 2014/2015.

Since leaving university, Michal has travelled the world, taking in over twenty different countries, working on yachts in various engineering roles to assist and fund his love for adventure.

Mr. Wensierski, we wish you the very best of luck with your biggest and most challenging expedition yet. Stay safe, keep focused and most importantly prioritise safety over summiting. We look forward to hearing all about it when you are back.
