GCA Under 18s Football Team tops the Middlesex League
In their first year in the Middlesex Schools league, GCA's Under 18s footballers came out top after a couple of tense matches in the play-off between the top four teams. After beating St. Ignatius School in the semi-final on penalties, our players were keen to get a clean win in 90 minutes against Woodhouse Sixth Form Centre to avoid both extra time and a penalty shootout. But it was not to be. At full time the score stood at 4 all and with some defensive playing in extra time there were no more goals. So it all rested on which team could hold their nerve in the penalty shootout and fortunately for us, Greig players had nerves of steel. Mr Howarth, team manager, said: “This is the first time we have entered a team in the Middlesex League so it’s especially pleasing that our Sixth formers have done so well. They worked very hard to reach the final four and I congratulate them all on this fine achievement”.
