We are all celebrating the official publication of last summer’s GCSE results which show that standards at the school continue to rise. We achieved our best ever results with 65% of students achieving five or more A*-C grades. This represents a 6% increase on the 2006 results and is 9% higher than the Haringey average. GCSE results at the school have now exceeded national results for the last two years.
Greig City Academy’s value added figure of 1029.5 is one of the highest in the country, putting the school in the top 5% of secondary schools. It shows the progress students make from joining the school in Year 7 to when they take their GCSEs. What the figure means is that all students achieved one grade higher in five GCSE subjects than they would have done had they attended a school with the average value added figure of 1000. The figure shows that all GCA students achieve and make good progress regardless of their prior attainment, academic ability, ethnicity or any other factors.
The GCSE results come just nine months after GCA was named by the DCSF as one of the top 100 fastest improving schools in the country on the basis of the Key Stage 3 test results between 2003 and 2006.
Principal Paul Sutton said “These figures are very pleasing and are the end result of a great deal of committed and sustained hard work on the part of students, staff and parents. The results reflect the many changes that have enabled the school to improve in so many ways.” “I would like to congratulate everyone concerned and I am particularly pleased with our very high value added figure. This indicator recognises the achievements of all the students in the year group in a way that the headline results do not. We are all proud to be part of a school that is in the top 5%”.
The school was also pleased with the 6% improvement in the percentage of students achieving five or more GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Maths. We are confident that the progress in English and Maths at Key Stage 3 will be reflected in future GCSE results.
Term starts 2 September. Year 7s - 8.25am start. All other Year groups should arrive at 10.50am.
