Homework

Regular homework consolidates work done in lessons and helps pupils develop the ability to study independently. It also gives parents a find out more about what their children are doing in class.

Year 7 pupils should expect to do at least an hour of homework every week night and the level increases as pupils go through the school.

Years 10 and 11 pupils are expected to take more responsibility for their own studies.  At this stage the way homework is set differs from subject to subject.  For example, pupils may need to plan assignments and use the Internet or libraries to do research as well as doing more traditional homework such as completing coursework.

'It’s a very good thing that the teachers have very high expectations, that makes my daughter get an extra push on classwork.'  Parent

All pupils have a homework diary.  Parents are asked to sign it once a week.  If parents have any concerns about the amount or type of homework set, they may either write a note to the teacher in the diary, asking for a reply, or they may ask call the school to speak to him or her.

Homework timetables for Years 7-9 can be downloaded by clicking links on the right.  You can also download notes on SAM Learning, an online revision site which students at Greig use.  These notes tell you how to log onto the site so that you can check what your son/daughter is revising.
