Attendance - every day counts

Young people benefit most from their education when parents and school staff work together to ensure that they attend school regularly and on time.  Young people whose attendance is good do better academically, make the most of extra-curricular opportunities and have a greater chance of maintaining good relationships with friends.

Please work with us to ensure good attendance for the benefit of your child.  We believe that birthdays, shopping, looking after siblings, outings, and lack of school uniform are not acceptable reasons for missing days.
What to do if your child is ill

There are still times when a young person cannot attend school, for example when ill.

  • If this happens, please call the school’s direct attendance line on 020 8609 0158 by 8.30am to explain why he or she is unable to attend and how long the absence is likely to last.  Or email

          student information@greigcityacademy.co.uk with details.

  • If your child does not attend and you do not contact us, we will send you a text message (provided we have your mobile number and permission to do so).  This will ask you to contact the school.
  • If we do not hear from you within five consecutive days of your child being absent we will write to you, asking you to contact us.
  • If we still do not hear from you we will send letters on the 10th and 20th days of absence.  At this stage, we will ask our Education Welfare Officer to contact you to discuss the absence and to work with you to decide on the best way of improving your child’s attendance and to agree how we can best support you and your child.
