In March 2009, Greig City Academy was inspected for OFSTED by a team of Her Majesty’s Inspectors. Here are some of the comments made in their report:
"The inspirational principal has built a strong, dedicated team of staff who share the vision to raise students' achievement."
"Personal development and well-being are good, as is students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development."
"Parents praise the academy highly. They comment on the extensive efforts staff have taken to support their children. A few consider their views could be taken into account more fully."
"Personal development and well-being are good in the main school and outstanding in the sixth form, where students take on many responsibilities. They support younger students in the main school extremely well."
"Students enjoy coming to the academy and taking part in a good range of enrichment activities."
"The introduction of a free choice of options for students at the beginning of Year 10 has been effective in raising motivation and the desire to succeed."
"The academy's arrangements to help students make a smooth transition from primary to secondary school are effective because of its strong links and thorough gathering of information on prospective Year 7 students."
In May 2009, the Academy had a Section 48 inspection. This type of inspection aims to answer the question: “How distinctive and effective is the school as a Church of England school?”All Church of England schools are required to be inspected under Section 48 when identified for a short-notice Section 5 Ofsted inspection. The key questions are:
The inspector rated the Academy good in all four areas. Here are some of the positive comments made in the report:
The Academy “has a particularly effective outcome in the harmony of relationships among the students”.
“Students feel supported and confident in talking about their faith commitments.”
“Students respond with respect and those from backgrounds other than Christian say they feel included.”
“The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students is good overall.”
The annual Christian Focus Month is “outstanding for its dynamic range and variety of events and speakers and for its positive impact on students, staff and the life of the school”.
“Inspection confirms the academy’s self-evaluation of leadership and management overall as good. Its potential for further development is outstanding.”
In September 2009, inspectors carried out a subject-specific inspection of business education. Here are some of their comments in their report published in November 2009 which judged the faculty to be 'outstanding' overall:
"The overall effectiveness of business education, including the development of students’ economic and business understanding and financial capability was judged to be outstanding."
"Classroom relationships are very good and students have very positive attitudes to the subject."
"Teachers have excellent knowledge of the subject and the most effective ways of teaching it."
"Students’ outstanding progress is due to consistently effective teaching and excellent support and guidance. Students are set appropriately challenging targets and their progress towards meeting them is closely monitored. Students are made well aware of how to improve their work through high quality written and oral feedback."
"Students have access to a strong programme of additional support, including extra sessions held on Saturdays and during the school holidays."
"The business education department has an excellent track record of raising standards and achievement and then maintaining them at a high level."
