Extra curricular - a rounded education

Students and parents also tell us how much they value the enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities the Academy offers.  For budding performers there are plenty of opportunities to play in school bands and ensembles and to set up their own groups.  The Gospel Choir has sung in some prestigious venues where GCA students have been chosen to sing solo.  Annual concerts, musical and drama productions give students a chance to show their talents.  

Sports are a strength, particularly basketball - two girsl' teams are national champions.  Some of our girl basketball players are in the England squad  as well as the school an local teams.  Our football teams are also starting to show their strength in local leagues.   Practice sessions are run before and after school as well as lunch time and at weekends.   

Our outdoor education programme has expanded rapidly over the last few years with cycling, surfing and survival trips in the UK, Ireland and Holland.  All Year 7 pupils have a chance to go on a 3-day residential activity camp in the autumn term where they try out archery, abseiling, caving, assault courses, mountain biking and orienteering as well as having a great time at the barbecue and chatting to friends all night.  

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme enables students to enjoy the challenge of outdoor pursuits combined with community service.

Then there are: The Girls' club; the Boys' club; Debating Society; art clubs, the wildlife club, the Christian club ... and much, much more.
