Here's Zora to tell you about her model 'Le Dodo'

17th May 2022

Welcome to my 15th model creation ‘Le Dodo’. The coat of arms on the top is the ‘Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’.  The model displays iconic natural reserve tourist attraction sights on the Island of Mauritius. The four acrylic paintings starting from top left to right are:

1. Bird Sanctuary in Rivulet Terre Rouge.

2. Pomplemousse - 4th Botanical Garden in the world.

3. Chamarel - terrain of 7 Coloured Earths.

4. Bois Cherie - Authentic Mauritian Tea Plant.

My creative piece, submitted for the ‘Origins Competition’, symbolises and encompasses the rich cultural history and community within Mauritius. The Coat of Arms lies on the lid of a ‘ship-wrecked’ cabin ornament. I envisaged that it would be intricately informative, portraying the year 1598 when the Dodo existed (extinct in 1690) and the Dutch squadrons arrived in Mauritius.

To enhance this creative work, I installed a musical module which plays the Mauritian National Anthem and national folk music known as Sega.
