Field study trip to Slapton Ley

Year 12 and 13 A Level geography, biology and applied science students were on a four-day field study trip to Slapton Ley in February.

This was an essential part of their learning - they were able to gather data and carry out a statistical analysis in order to form a conclusion. As part of teir Applied Science Course they studied sampling techniques, using equipment such as a quadrat or line transect to measure population sizes. In addition they looked at succession, pond dipping and used statistical methods such as Chi square and T test to prove or disprove their predictions.
