End of season news about our robotics champs.

8th Jul 2021

On July 6, Nadia, Y7, and Darius, Y9, represented the Academy at the final VEX robotics tournament of this season at Queen Elizabeth Boys UK Signature Tournament. We had hoped to field 5 teams but due to a lot of Covid self-isolation, we could send only two.

Our two did extremely well and again we won nearly everything!

GCA Gearers with their robot Speedy Boy Junior the 4th (now in its 5th modified build) superbly driven and programmed by Darius scored the tournament high score and UK highest Robot Skills score this year, so claiming the Tournament Skills Champion Award. He went on to win the Tournament alongside his alliance partners QE Gear Squad.

GCA Gearers, Beatrice and Darius have won all but one of their competitions this year and came in second in their division at the VEX Robotics world championships this year.

10478Y with Nadia in her first ever tournament (having only recently joined our robotics club), overcame her nerves and so impressed the umpires and judges, with her professional attitude, skill under pressure and real grit, that she was awarded the Judges' award.

10478Y with Julia Podgorska, Nadia Turek and Naamah Edwards also represented the UK at the world championships coming 8th in their division.

It was great fun to finally have a live tournament and work face-to-face with people rather than over video link and our students always impress other schools, it was also a fitting end to a difficult year.

Congratulations to all of this year's teams.
